CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY BLUES COMMITTEE

President:

Secretary:

21.v.99

Dear Anthony,

Thank you for your Formal application for Blues recognition for Poohsticks, an activity which clearly draws upon the traditions of the various unreformed pastimes which flourished in Britain before the zealous recreational reformations of the mid-Victorian age.

Only half and full blues are awarded for any sport, and neither a quarter nor eighth blues exist. I have no doubt that the event between your society and that of Oxford can flourish irrespective of its Blue status. The committee did accord your application due consideration and weight at its meeting last night, but felt that the pastime did not meet any of the established criteria for the award of Blues.

As Eyeore would have said, "we can’t all have blues, and some of us don’t. That’s all there is to it".
