Minutes of the Elevenses Meeting of the Pembroke College Winnie-the-Pooh Society
Held in room 7, 62 Jesus Lane, Saturday 9th May 1998
Present: Andrew, Vicky, Henry, Tony, Ben, Michael, Anthony, Rob, Claire, Oliver, Richard, James, Alan the penguin
Apologies: Jenny, Kirsten (on a bus), Sibylle (in Germany), Stephen (in Wales. Apparently “it was good. There were lots of sheep”)
Just generally not here: Owen
- New ground for PoohSoc, we are in Vicky’s room, in a Jesus College house.
- It is noted that PoohSoc has more legs than an average group of people would have.
- The things and the wotsits are put in the middle of the floor.
- Vicky has a London and North Eastern Railway mug. Is she a secret trainspotter?
- Michael complains that he is going to die horribly from the heat. We agree that it is rather warm, and try to cool the room by opening the window further.
unfortunately a Woozle seems to have acquired the rest of the minuting paper, hence the rest of the minutes are done from memory.
- The impending trial of Alan the penguin is discussed.
- We vote to permit Claire to vote, but not to let Richard vote as he has been to a number of meetings now and still not joined. Eventually we “persuade” him to hand over his Pooh levy, and Andrew is nominated to pass this to the treasurer, as he lives nearest to her (note: I gave it to her in the gyp-room on Monday). Richard Boulton (with a U) thus becomes the newest recruit, and amazingly actually has some link to Pembroke College!
- Tea and Ribena are drunk.
- We manage to eat all the donuts. Plenty more food to go, though.
- Anfony makes repeated attempts to throw Alan out of the window, but the penguin keeps landing in a fold in the curtain. Eventually Alan is thrown out of the window, to the surprise of someone sun bathing in the garden. She attempts to return him to us, and Andrew invades the room of two very bemused Jesusians below in an attempt to catch the flying penguin.
- The James arrives “slightly under the influence” as he puts it. Too much (=any?) XXXX, obviously.
- The reading “In which Kanga and Baby Roo come to the Forest, and Piglet has a bath”.
- Alan is tried for worshipping false idols, war crimes (based around the use of water pistols during the punt race), and similar crimes. (The) James acts as judge, disproving the “sober as a judge” saying. The jury of Andrew, Henry and Vicky find Alan to be “guilty as hell”. Obviously. We dream up various foul punishments for him, to horrible to be minuted where women and children or Jeremy could read them.
- Anfony does particularly evil things with Alan.
- Vote to close. The next meeting will be in Henry’s room, Caius.
