Minutes of the elevenses meeting of the Pembroke College Winnie-the-Pooh Society held in Q11
on 23rd May 1998
Present: Rob, Ben, Michael, Tony, Andrew, Yasmin, Chris, Julia (a 6th former from King’s Lynn), and Katie (ditto, “with lovely hair”), (the) James, Emily, Simeon (Emily’s brother).
Apologies: Sibylle, Vicky C, Jenny (at home), Vicky J, Stephen, Anthony..
- The meeting is opened. It was Tony’s birthday yesterday, so we have a large cake. A card is hurriedly made, and signed by all.
- “I might go and see if my sixth former has come yet” - Ben.
- Discussion of who lived where last year. We decide that this was Chris James’ room.
- The tea is nice.
- A semi-naked bloke walks past the door (Vickys and Jenny, you missed out...). We decide Grange Road had better semi-naked people last year.
- The sixth formers arrive, and we are introduced.
- We consider modifying the constitution to ensure that the majority of members are always from Pembroke.
- Julia reads the minutes.
- James arrives, and shows himself briefly.
- All but James vote that the visitors be allowed to vote.
- We vote that Tony blows out the imaginary candles, and cuts the cake. We have a suprisingly musical rendition of “Happy birthday”.
- we eat cake, then James leaves.
- We discuss texts for the T-shirts. Possibilities are
“Promise me...”
“Cottlleston pie..”
“Wobbly spelling”
“So much better with two”
- Ben stole a pen at school. I wonder if the owner reads the minutes...? If you are out there, now you know who it was if you want to “send the boys round”...
- Emily and Simeon (sic) arrive.
- “In which Pooh and Piglet go hunting and nearly catch a Woozle”.
- We censure Ben to make him happy. Little things...
- Ben reads “Lines and Squares”.
- Emily recites a poem about Stairs.
- “Buckingham Palace” is read, laden with innuendo.
- We will get 50 glasses for the Garden Party.
- Rob explains the intricacies of plurals, and is censured for being patronising.
- Rob talks about Annelies (I think I’ve spelt it right this time!!) and her nether regions. Apparently it’s Dutch (I didn’t minute this lot, I don’t know who did).
- Luckily at this point James returns and interrupts the proceedings.
- “Within 1hr 15 min of the meeting starting Granny pulls.” (This has been minuted by person or persons unknown. Strangely, I didn’t even notice - can I have more details?! AJG)
- Vote to close. We depart for trough to terrify the sixth formers further.
